In the context of nutritional security and economic stability, there is a great significance of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and crops. Today, in the era of globalization and economic liberalization,horticulture sector has immense potentialin poverty alleviation, increasing farmers’ income and sustaining a large number of Agro-based industries which generate a large number of employment opportunities. Keeping view of immense potential of the horticulture sector, the Government of India is making robust policies and significant changes in the existing system to uplift and strengthen the sector.

The opening of global trade in the horticulture sector has encouraged manyto diversify their activities with horticulture crops and also created a great demand of professionals to help in the development of the horticulture sector in the country. Keeping this thing in mind, Mangalayatan University Jabalpur has started a full-fledgedfour year undergraduate programme B.sc (Hons) Horticulture.

The curriculum of B.sc (Hons) Horticulture includes theory and practical education over eight semestersfocused on developing scientific approach and business skills in students which are essential for them to succeedin the commercial horticulture sector. The programme integrates the basic sciences, humanities, horticulture, allied sciences and horticultural engineering.Through the programme students acquainted with various facets of horticulture and its related specializations in the well-equipped laboratories as well as in real environment in related industries and farming.
